Qualifying Etiquette

5-1 Qualifying Etiquette

5-1.1 It is the drivers responsibility to find free space on the track when starting a hotlap.
5-1.2 Any car on a flying lap does not have to yield to a faster car approaching from behind.
5-1.3 Use of Intermediate (green ring) or Wet (blue ring) tyres during dry weather running in qualifying is permitted, so long as a lap time is not set under these conditions. Driver(s) may leave the pitlane to complete an ‘out-lap’ directly followed by an ‘in-lap’ where they return to the pits without penalty.
5-1.3.1 Driver(s) who set a lap time on Intermediate (green ring) or Wet (blue ring) tyres during dry weather running in qualifying will be given a +5 second penalty to add to their final race time.
5-1.4 Intentionally breaking marker boards is forbidden. Anyone seen to be doing this in qualifying/race could be handed a penalty ranging from 5 seconds per infringement to DSQ depending on severity (Steward’s Discretion).

5-2 Blocking/Obstruction

5-2.1 Cars not on a flying lap must make every effort not to obstruct other drivers.
5-2.2 Giving dirty air and/or visually impairing a driver may be considered as obstruction.
5-2.3 Obstructing a driver on a hotlap will result in a qualifying ban.

5-3 Slipstream

5-3.1 Giving a tow to any driver (excluding teammate) is prohibited. In that case, the towing driver and the towed driver may be both penalised.
5-3.2 Drivers catching slower cars are allowed to move into their slipstream.

5-4 Retirements

5-4.1 Retiring from qualifying must be done in the pits.
5-4.2 Deliberately retiring on track will result in a qualifying ban.

5-5 Qualifying Ban

5-5.1 When serving a qualifying ban, drivers may complete 1 installation lap within the first 5 minutes of the session to ensure that a car setup is saved. Re-entering the circuit after this lap will result in disqualification from the race and a carryover of the qualifying ban to the next race a driver competes in.
5-5.2 If driver(s) have a qualifying ban for the next event but does not attend t he race, the penalty will carry over until the next time they race.
5.5.3 Failure to serve QB will result in the following:

    • 1st offense- DSQ from current round + QB carry over into next round + Any on track incidents are subject to normal virtual license penalties;
    • 2nd offense- DSQ from current round + RB from next round + Any on track incidents are subject to normal virtual license penalties;
    • 3rd offense- Season Ban / Admin Review.
