Race Track
4-1 Pit Entry, Pitlane, Pit Exit
4-1.1 The section of track between the first safety car line and the beginning of the pit lane is designated the “pit entry”.
4-1.1.1 Except in cases of force majeure (accepted as such by the Stewards), any tyre of a car entering the pitlane must not cross, in any direction, any line painted on the track at the pit entry for the purpose of separating cars entering the pitlane from those on the track. Dashed lines (e.g. first part of the France entry) are excluded from this rule. Violation of this rule will result in a post race penalty of five seconds plus any other penalties that can be applied based on how dangerous the illegal entry is deemed by stewards.
4-1.2 The section of track between the end of the pit lane and the second safety car line is designated the “pit exit”.
4-1.2.1 Except in cases of force majeure (accepted as such by the Stewards), any tyre of a car exiting the pitlane must not cross any line painted on the track at the pit exit for the purpose of separating cars leaving the pitlane from those on the track.
4-1.3 Any driver intending to enter or to leave the pits must make sure it is safe to do so.
4-1.4 It is the responsibility of the driver behind to not crash into the car in front.
4-1.5 In cases where the driver entering the pits has greater speed than those continuing around the track (e.g. Canada), drivers should assume that the car ahead is continuing on.
4-1.6 When committed to the pitlane entry, crossing the line separating the pit entry and the track to stay out on track is prohibited.
4-1.7 Except in the cases of force majeure, when pitting, crossing the line separating the pit entry and the track with a full tyre is prohibited.
4-1.8 When exiting the pit, crossing the line separating the pit exit and the track with a full tyre is prohibited.
4-1.9 Overtakes in the ‘pitlane’ are allowed however 2 wheels must remain in between the white lines at all times.
4-1.10 Slowing to an unnecessary speed in the pitlane is deemed dangerous and unacceptable. Doing so may result in a post race penalty (stewards discretion).
4-2 Track Limits
4-2.1 The white lines that define the track edges are considered to be part of the track but the kerbs are not.
4-2.2 Drivers must make every reasonable effort to stay on the track at all times and may not deliberately leave the track without justifiable reason.
4-2.3 A driver will be judged to have left the track if no part of their car remains in contact with the track.
4-2.4 A driver who has left the track may rejoin it only and only if it is safe to do so, and without gaining an advantage.
4-2.5 If a driver is deemed to have gained an advantage by leaving the track, they must make every effort to give back the whole of any advantage gained. Failure to do so may result in a penalty.
4-2.6 It is up to the (stewards’ discretion) as to whether they feel the driver has abused the track limits to an extent where a penalty is justified.
4-2.7 Deliberate corner cutting during qualifying in order to reduce tyre degradation and/or make it in time to do a flying lap/save qualifying time is forbidden under any circumstances. Anyone caught cutting corners for any purpose other than to allow another driver through on their hot lap will be penalized with a qualifying ban the following race.
